Radishes are an edible root vegetable that comes in many varieties and colors including white, black, purple, green, and most commonly red. Radishes can have a mild or a sharp peppery flavor with a wonderful crunch. They are a great addition to a salad, but can also be pickled, boiled, baked, or fried. Radishes are a great vegetable to plant as a row marker in between slower growing vegetables, because they do grow so fast.
Radishes typically grow better in cooler temperatures and can tolerate colder weather. Start by direct sowing radish seed at d depth of 1/2 inch in fertile, well drained loose soil. Space about 1 inch apart and thin seedlings to about 2 inches apart when they reach about an inch tall, for larger varieties like daikon radishes space or thin to 4-6 inches apart. It is recommended to sow radishes about every 2 weeks for a continuous harvest.
